MEXICO 01

Have you ever fantasised of placing your feet on a piece of land, on which no one had stepped before? Well I have,  and in Mexico I feel closer to this accomplishment.  Mexico itself is stepped in indigenous history but the european presence here is relatively young and i may be not be on fresh new land in practical terms but the land itself seems younger, a land free from the heavy European history i am accustomed to.  Tulum, Palenque, Yaxchilan, a trip through vastly flat planes and a gradually growing jungle, ruins which they feel like they have been abandon only months ago when in actuality they have been forgotten in the jungle for thousands of years. Deserted and neglected, the civilisation left behind many questions entangled in the thick vines of vegetation, but most importantly the best proof of its existence, the very living indigenous people and culture of  Mexico.

This is an important moment!

London, New Years Eve, temp 05Cº. We are wearing bermudas well prepared for the 30Cº in Mexico but in London we were freezing, however the always lovely friends from Cable Street Studios managed to warm us up. Salute to unit 1. In moments from these frame the journey began.

AegeanSea

Four different islands, the same dip blue waters and a three-year jump to the past. The summer of 11’ was a quest for solitude, a journey through my own reality, which the destination was revealed only the very moment of the arrival. And it was nothing else of the exact point where we meet all these people that surround our lives.

Thoughts

While drifting in the corridors of a cable factory which the Finish inventiveness turned to a massive gallery space, i came across many striking photographs and small quotes of the artist. The images were mainly staged portraits, captured with great technique enabling the story to be said. But my attention was focused on one of the small lines that were spread in between the empty walls. The artist was stating that every single portrait she had captured was a small reflection of her own self. Days and months passed and for some reason i found my self shifting my photographic interest to people and portraiture without knowing exactly why. The only guide i had was my excitement which followed a good day with my camera, drifting in the streets, capturing people absorbed by their thoughts, by their lives and their interactions with their own individual reality. Only recently my vision became clearer, and i remembered that small quote which unconsciously became the reason to start my own quest to observe the small reflections in these timeless moments of solitary thinking which all of us share.  And through them to build an image of how i am. A collection which never ends.
